Some of you might have noticed from my Instagram I had a little getaway to Sunshine Coast last weekend, hence my posting schedule was completely off last week. But now I am back, I would like to kick-start this week with something that can really speed up your makeup routine, aka an extra five minutes of snooze in the morning or a quick touch up before date night, anyone?
The product I am going to talk about today is Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes Double Ended Shadow & Liner. It comes with four different colour combos, and the two I received to review are #001 Back to Blacks and #003 Queens of the Bronzed Age.
The dual-tipped pen features one of the brand’s stay true shadow at one end and a 24 HR kohl kajal liner at the other. Here are the swatches (from left to right):
1. #003 Queens of the Bronzed Age
Gold – a high pearl liner with glitter
Bronze – a medium pearl eyeshadow
2. #001 Back to Blacks
Black – a matte liner
Gun Metal Grey – a high pearl eyeshadow with glitter
Let’s start with #003 Queens of the Bronzed Age. For those who have read my blog for a while, you have probably noticed I am always after the “barely there” finish for my makeup, and #003 Queens of the Bronzed Age does just that!
Simply cover your upper eyelids with the gold liner first. Then apply a single swipe of the bronze eyeshadow from 2/3 of your upper lashline to the outer edges and slightly smudge it with your finger. For the lower lids, use the edge of the bronze eyeshadow to draw a thin eyeline from 2/3 of your lower lashline to the outer edges and connect it with your upper liner. Accentuate your waterline with the gold liner, done!
The result is quite similar to the day-to-day look I normally do with regular eyeshadows, only a lot faster. I wore this look to work and it stayed put all day, definitely a must-try for those who are looking to shorten their morning routine.
Moving on to #001 Back to Blacks, it’s a very classic combo for smoky eyes. Although I don’t usually wear this type of colours on my eyes, I can’t deny it’s a really quick way to create a dramatic eye-look.
Do a cat eyeliner with the matte black liner. Then apply a couple swipes of the gun metal grey eyeshadow on your upper lids. You may want to fan out the gun metal grey eyeshadow from 2/3 of your upper lashline to the outer edges. Smudge the eyeshadow a little with your finger to create a gradient result. For the lower lids, use the black liner to draw a thin eyeline from 2/3 of your lower lashline to the outer edges and connect it with the upper liner. Glide through your waterline with the gun metal grey eyeshadow.
The whole process will only take you about two minutes. If this is not the quickest way to do a smoke eye, I don’t know what is! If you are like me who don’t usually wear heavy eye makeup, this is the perfect quick fix for you to turn it up a notch when attending parties or concerts. Still find the blacks a bit too dark or heavy for your liking? Try to do a reversed version of this with #003 Queens of the Bronzed Age. The finishing look is very cool and chic.
These pens are highly pigmented, very soft and super easy to draw with. I tried to wash off the swatches on the back of my hand but they wouldn’t come off completely without the help of a makeup remover, definitely score a big tick for its waterproof and transfer-proof qualities!
One thing to note is these pens have a very quick drying formula. Once they dry, they stay put for a whole day. You have to smudge them quickly before they dry if you want to create a gradient eye look! I would definitely recommend these to those who are looking for a quicker way to do their eye makeup and makeup novices for its convenience.
Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes Double Ended Shadow & Liner (RRP $16.95) are available from Priceline, Priceline Pharmacy, Chemist Warehouse, Target, Kmart, BIG W, selected pharmacies and selected Coles and Woolworths.
