In my last beauty post, I have talked about a stunning lip gloss from the Lancôme Makeup Set I got a while ago. Today I am going to review the hero item of the set – Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara.
I have tried the Hypnôse Star Mascara from Lancôme a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. So this time when I was shopping for a high end mascara, I immediately started to look at all the different ones from the Hypnôse family and eventually picked a makeup set that came with the Hypnôse Drama Mascara.
According to the brand, Hypnôse Drama Mascara (shop here, here or here) is all about boosting volume to create a dramatic full lash look. As you can see from the picture below, my lashes are significantly lengthened and volumised after two coats of the mascara!
Why does it have to be two coats? This is because the unique S-shaped brush requires you to use a special way to apply the mascara – first, place the flat curved side of the brush at the root of the lash fringe and gently comb from root to tip; then turn the brush and use the side bristles to structure, separate and to further enhance the look of your lashes. I have tried to apply the mascara in other ways and sometimes it ended with clumps.
In my humble opinion, this may be why there are a certain amount of users feeling unimpressed by the mascara. But once you get a good grasp of the technique, the resulting look is quite rewarding.
I found the mascara gives my stubborn Asian lashes a much better lift than a lot of western brand mascaras. Wear-wise, it basically doesn’t smudge for a whole-day wear but it gets flaky sometimes after I curl my lashes with a lash curler.
Overall, the mascara delivers a great voluminous lash look as it has promised but the application could be a bit tricky.
Have you tried this mascara before? Do you have a high end mascara you swear by?
