This Camera Will Help You Take a Killer #OOTD Photo on Your Own

DSC08726I have to admit I am pretty lucky. Mr. D has been very supportive with my blogging, and he tries to help me with outfit photos as much as possible. But still, there are days he isn’t around or isn’t feeling like picking up the camera. I am not much of a photographer, but I do have a very simple trick under my sleeves that can help me get a good #OOTD when flying solo.

Quite a few of my friends have asked me what camera I am using. I’d like to brag about how I have mastered a crazy big DSLR, but the truth is I am using a Sony a5000 and I absolutely love it!

You can probably view all the specs and technical reviews about this camera in details somewhere else. Here I would like to focus on why this camera is such a great tool for me in fashion blogging. First of all, this baby comes in white! Together with the leather casing, it just translates a really cool vintage vibe! Some countries even carry this model in pink. Yes, you heard me – pink. So style wise, this one is definitely a winner.

Look how cute it looks with its built-in flash!

This interchangeable lens camera also features a 180° tiltable LCD screen with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Simply flip the LCD screen, and you can do a hassle-free selfie.

But here’s the best part – it supports the Sony PlayMemories Mobile app (available on both iTunes and Google Play). Set up the camera with a tripod, connect the camera with your smartphone via the app, flip the LCD screen, and you are good to go!

This app allows you to use your smartphone as a remote of any Wi-Fi compatible Sony cameras. You can operate various settings of the camera from your phone: viewing the subject, shooting, zoom, touch-AF, etc. No more running back and forth to adjust camera settings or test the light. All you need to do is stand in front of the camera, and start clicking that camera button on your phone!

As the camera is synced with your phone, all the pictures taken are automatically saved in both devices. Perfect for instant social media posting!

I know some bloggers like to hide their remotes when shooting their own #OOTD photos. But since mine is a mobile, I just treat it as a `prop’ (see here, here, and here).

Also works for close up accessory shots, just zoom in with your phone and shoot away!

It may not be the best camera but it is super lightweight and user-friendly. The focus is really sharp and the colour is true-to-life. Sony has also released a newer model a5100 which comes in black and white (as well as a stunning brown in some countries). No one knows your angles better than you do. With some help of this camera and a simple tripod, you can easily be the model and photographer at the same time! Happy shooting!

Have you tried shooting your own outfit photos? What tricks do you use?

  1. What a great little camera! I’m currently lusting over a camera that looks quite similar to this but it’s by Olympus! I own a big DSLR but sometimes I think it would be nice to own something a little more compact! A lot like the one you’ve mentioned here & it looks like you’ve captured some really lovely quality photos with it too 🙂 I especially like the whole flip screen/easy selfie thing, that would come in super handy! Aha, great post!

    • I was deciding between the Olympus PEN series and this one before. But the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and great variety of application options in this one has sold me. I have a couple friends who have the Olympus PEN and they really love it too. 🙂
