Flip through nearly every single magazine, fashion site and blog, you will find all sorts of culottes jumping off the pages (and screens). But somehow, I haven’t hopped on the culotte bandwagon till recently. They are chic, they are comfy, and they are tricky. This wide-legged pant style can be quite controversial – very polish or super mumsy (in a bad way). Ahead was my first attempt in styling these pants-of-the-season.
To me, culottes are like a mutated version of midi full skirts. They are as elegant as a midi skirt minus the risk of sudden exposure over an annoying gust. And just like their mid-length skirt counterparts, a pair of black culottes is always fool-proof.
This voluminous pant style offers quite a dramatic silhouette on its own. So simply pair them with a black top, and let your accessories speak for you. Here, I was wearing a men’s tie as a belt, some mirrored lens sunnies and a bright colour lippie to make the culottes say more `now’ than `frumpy’. Sky is the limit of your accessory game when you have a perfect black `backdrop’.
Oh, and don’t forget to put your best foot forward. This mid-calf cropped length will put the emphasis on your shoes. Try mules or some heeled sandals for brunch, and change into a pair of bright colour/pattern heels for work. Either way, your shoes are going to be in the spotlight!
What do you think about the culotte trend? Yay or nay?
