Let’s be honest: Melbourne Cup is right around the corner, and you have probably sorted out your cute little dress and fascinator with your bff months ago. But for those who are a bit lazier (aka me), last minute shopping for the perfect dress can be as stressful as going on a blind date. Plus, how often/likely you are going to wear that dress again? So why not try something different, and go for items you will wear beyond the day without feeling embarrassed.
1. Go for jumpsuits
Dressing for spring races is another of my “when in doubt, wear jumpsuits” moment. It is easy, it is stylish, and it is comfortable to move in it. Pick a more tailored cut jumpsuit, say a tux inspired one will be good, and you will keep going back to it for both work and play.
As I am not a big fan of fascinators, I accessorised the outfit with some statement jewellery to turn up the volume a notch.
2. Think separates
You don’t have to wear a dress to look polished or sophisticated; a nice midi skirt can do the same trick. Midi skirts are so trendy right now, and you will be surprised not to see at least a couple of them in any major retailer. Pair a midi full skirt with a form-fitting top to create an hourglass effect (and to hide the food baby from all those delicious canapés at the races). And the beauty of wearing separates? You can turn them into a hundred outfits with other separates!
Since midi skirts could look a little matronly on shorter girls, I threw some funkier accessories in there to spice things up a little. Mirror lens sunnies, midi-rings, and a book like clutch; boom, this girl is ready to have fun at the racecourse!
Speaking of race wear, I would love to hear what you would choose to wear to a race.
